Not all mangoes are ready to be sliced right out of the box! Here’s how to know when your mango is ripe and bursting with flavor.
Smell: A ripe mango will have a fruity, sweet aroma at the stem end.
Feel: It should give slightly when you press it — not too hard, not too mushy.
Color: The color varies by variety. Kesar turns golden-yellow; Alphonso becomes deep saffron with slight redness.
⏳ Ripening Tip: Keep your mangoes at room temperature to ripen. Once ripe, store them in the refrigerator to extend freshness for 3–5 more days.
Follow these easy steps to cut your mango like a pro.
Stand it up with the stem at the top. Mangoes have a flat, oblong seed in the center.
Slice off the “cheeks” by cutting just off-center from both sides of the seed.
Score the cheeks in a crisscross pattern (but don’t cut through the skin).
Flip the cheek inside out and scoop out the cubes with a spoon!
